Copper Wire Buyers — your questions answered
Bare bright is clean, unalloyed, uncoated wire thicker than 1.6mm with no paint, solder or oxidation — the highest grade. No.1 is clean heavy copper with minor imperfections. No.2 carries paint, solder, tinning or heavier oxidation. Each attracts a different rate.
Yes, meaningfully. Sorted copper is paid at its true grade; mixed loads have to be priced conservatively against the lowest grade present. If you have the space and time to separate, it is worth doing.
On calibrated scales, in front of you, before anything is loaded. For larger loads we use a certified weighbridge and issue a ticket. You get a written record of weight and grade with every collection.
We do, though for very small amounts it is usually worth combining a few jobs into one collection so the visit is worthwhile for both of us. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth a trip yet.
