How we handle your information, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Review before launch
This policy is a working draft covering the normal obligations for a UK scrap metal dealer. It must be reviewed by whoever is responsible for data protection at London Scrap Metal Company, and the bracketed placeholders completed, before the site goes live.

What we collect
- Enquiry details — your name, phone number, email address, company name, collection postcode and what you have told us about the material.
- Transaction records — where we buy metal from you, we are legally required to record the seller's identity and the details of the transaction.
- Technical data — basic information your browser sends, such as IP address and pages visited, if analytics are enabled.
Why we hold it, and our lawful basis
- To respond to your enquiry and arrange collection — because you asked us to, and to take steps towards a contract with you.
- To keep records the law requires — the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 obliges us to verify and record every seller's identity and retain those records. This is a legal obligation.
- To meet waste duty-of-care obligations — waste transfer notes and related documentation, again a legal obligation.
- To keep proper accounting records — a legal obligation under tax and companies legislation.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data and we do not pass it to third parties for marketing. We share it only where we must: with the Environment Agency, the police or a local authority where the law requires; with our accountants and professional advisers; and with the service providers who run our website, email and any form-handling service, who act on our instructions.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to a collection are deleted after [ADD period, e.g. 12 months]. Transaction and identity records required by the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 are retained for at least three years, and accounting records for six years, as required by law.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to us using it, or ask us to restrict how we use it. Cookies and analytics

If Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or similar are added later, this section and a cookie banner must be updated with them.
